Work placements
Work placements are a fantastic opportunity to gain confidence and commercial awareness before you graduate.
Our degrees prepare you for employment in a wide range of sectors and work placements are a great way to identify your strengths and explore your career options. You'll also gain additional drive and focus that will benefit you in both studying and applying for graduate jobs.
Journalism students are guaranteed a three-week placement in the broadcasting industry in line with the requirements of the accrediting body, the Broadcast Journalism Training Council.
If you study Digital Media, Communication and Media, or Film, Photography and Media, then you can take a placement module in your final year.
All our students have the option of doing a year in industry. If you choose to do a year-long placement, you'll usually do this after your second year before returning to Leeds to complete your studies. This will increase the length of your degree to four years. Our students have recently secured year-long placements at companies including Apple, L’Oreal and Warner Bros.
The University’s Careers Centre has links with organisations across the UK and around the world and can support you in approaching one of your choice. Your work placement options range from a year in industry to short summer internships.

I'd definitely recommend a work placement to other students. It gives you the opportunity to put your skills into practice but also learn a lot more. It also gives you the chance to network and meet a lot of new people connected to your field. What I learnt during my placement allowed me to treat my academic projects as if I was delivering a product for a client.View Profile
