Dr Ying Peng

Profile

I joined University of Leeds in 2012, where I teach Chinese language, culture, translation, and teaching-related training. I hold a PhD in Language Education and an MA in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, which have provided me with a strong academic foundation in language education and assessment. I am deeply passionate about research-led teaching and strive to integrate the latest research/scholarship in language learning and assessment into my teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Chinese Study Abroad Tutor

Research interests

The acquisition of Chinese as a second or foreign language has been the primary focus of my research and scholarship throughout my academic career. Since taking on the role of study abroad tutor, I have developed a research interest in students' study abroad experiences. More recently, I have combined my work in these two areas, conducting a longitudinal study on students' Chinese fluency at different stages. This study aims to address key questions about the role of immersion, or the lack thereof, in building oral proficiency during virtual year abroad experiences.
