2026 COIL Showcase: Preparing our students for a changing world with transformative globally engaged learning

An update on the progress of COIL at Leeds and support available, talks from colleagues using COIL, networking opportunities, and a chance to hear from students who have experienced COIL at Leeds

Collaborative online international learning (COIL) is a teaching methodology used globally to provide students with inclusive globally engaged collaborative learning opportunities. At Leeds work has been underway since 2023 to scale up COIL provision across all Faculties. Exciting and transformative for both students and colleagues, COIL is versatile and can be applied in any discipline.

This 3rd annual COIL Showcase is THE Leeds COIL event of the year, bringing together a rapidly growing internal community of practice made up of both academic and professional service colleagues.

As well as providing an up-to-date view of the COIL landscape at Leeds, this year’s Showcase promises to challenge us with:

  • An update on the progress of COIL at Leeds from Prof. Martin Ward
  • Insights into the student experience of COIL at Leeds
  • A talk entitled ‘Critical internationalisation and COIL: exploring perspectives and approaches to ethical COIL’ by Dr Madeleine Le Bourdon with Q&A
  • COIL practice talks from colleagues doing or currently designing COILs- details to follow soon!
  • A presentation from digital education colleagues on support available for COIL
  • Networking opportunities with others using COIL at Leeds

Whether you’re completely new to COIL or already doing it, why not come along to network with other colleagues at this exciting event and take the next step on your COIL journey.
