Background:

Jointly initiated in 2021 by Prof. Binhua Wang from University of Leeds (UK) and Prof. Kefei Wang and Prof. Wei Zhang from Beijing Foreign Studies University (China), the UK-China Symposium on Translation Studies has evolved into a series of biennial conference co-organised by a China university and a UK university. This symposium serves as a platform to promote regular international academic exchanges and research collaborations among translation and interpreting (T&I) scholars from UK and China and beyond. The conference series has received wide support from the international academic community. Representative T&I scholars from 24 prominent universities around the world have joined the academic committee.   

The conference series focuses on themes related to the current state of translation and interpreting studies. The 1st UK-China Symposium on Translation Studies, held at the University of Leeds on 16-17 Aug 2021, centered on the theme of “Translation and interpreting studies in the East and West: Advances, convergence and divergence”. It highlighted the significance of translation activities between China and the UK and set the tone for the entire series. The 2nd UK-China Symposium on Translation Studies took place at Beijing Foreign Studies University on 15-16 Sep 2023, with the theme “Translation Education and Studies in the New Technological Context: Challenges and Opportunities”.

The 3rd symposium will focus on the theme of the human touch in translation and interpreting in the age of AI.

We welcome submission of abstracts exploring the following topics and beyond:
