Profile
My name is Joseph (Joe) and I am a PhD student in History. I joined Leeds from Huddersfield University where I was awarded my BA in History as well as my MA by Research in History. Both projects were on the First World War, examining the expansion of the British medical services and the British use of poisonous gas respectively. I feel the First World War is fascinating, and I look forward to continue researching it during my time at Leeds. I would like to stay within academia for my career, going into lecturing within Higher Education.
Research interests
I am interested in twentieth century British history, with particular focus on the First World War. I am, however, interested in anything historical and read widely. My current research in my PhD is examining the role and influence of trust on soldiers of the Western Front, and whether trust eroded or endured throughout the First World War. My main areas of interest are:
- The First World War
- Twentieth Century Britain
- Britain in the 1920s–30s
- The Second World War
- Hitler’s Germany and Nazism
Qualifications
- BA in History
- MA by Research in History
