Radio Station to Broadcast IMC Disco

Chapel FM in Seacroft to broadcast Thursday's International Medieval Congress virtual disco

Every year, the University of Leeds hosts the International Medieval Congress (IMC), which regularly attracts 3000 scholars of the Middle Ages to the city. And for the second year, the Congress is taking place online, with participants Zooming in from all the inhabited continents of the Earth. And just as the online format will not stop medievalists of the world joining in intellectual discussion, nor will it stop them joining in the famous IMC disco, the social highlight of the year for medievalists far and wide.

Normally, as well as hosting academic discussions, the IMC also welcomes its neighbours across Leeds to public craft-fairs, concerts, film-screenings and other events. Sadly, amidst the uncertainties of life in current times, it was not possible to arrange these.

But the IMC is delighted to be working with Chapel FM to broadcast our disco playlist, and we invite everyone to join us virtually in groove in your living rooms, kitchens and gardens. The broadcast begins on Thursday 8 July at 2000 BST at https://www.chapelfm.co.uk/elfm-player/. The disco officially runs from 2030 to 2200. Get out of your chair and get dancing, and tweet us using the hashtags #ELFM, #IMC2021, and #IMCdisco.

Chapel FM takes its name from the old Methodist Chapel in the Leeds district of Seacroft in which it is based, which is now an arts centre which is key to the cultural life of East Leeds. The radio station was created back in 2003 as a pilot project run by Heads Together Productions with students from John Smeaton High School. It has grown and developed since then and in 2014 its volunteers saved the crumbling old Seacroft Chapel to create Chapel FM. For further information, visit www.chapelfm.co.uk.

And for those who prefer scratching their chins to scratching records, we also have an International Medieval Congress virtual disco 2021 QUIZ! We'll be publishing the questions at https://forms.office.com/r/MBSQ54HKme shortly before the disco begins at 2030 BST Thursday 8 July 2021. Whoever gets the most questions right will be granted praise and eternal fame via the Leeds Institute for Medieval Studies's social media platforms.

We look forward to grooving with you on Thursday!
