Ones to Watch 2017 at Sunny Bank Mills
BA Fine Art students have been selected to show their work at an exhibition this month
BA Fine Art students Zoë Carlon and Toby Kilby-Pollard are amongst a group of over 40 emerging artists and makers from across Yorkshire who have been selected to show their work at the Ones to Watch 2017 exhibition this month at Sunny Bank Mills.
This annual exhibition showcases work by graduates and current students from universities and colleges across the region, using methods including painting, sculpture, textiles, graphics, film, photography, ceramics, jewellery, product, design, performance, installation, drawing and printmaking.
Zoë Carlon, a third year student from the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies, said:
“It’s great to be selected for this exhibition and to have the opportunity to show work with other local artists who have a range of different arts practices.
“It is also a brilliant chance to have some exposure for my paintings in the run up to the final degree show and then graduation.
“I will be showing some recent oil paintings that deal with transitory spaces and interiors and I am looking forward to seeing them in a new context.”
Ones to Watch 2017 runs from 3 March to 2 April in the Gallery in the Sandsgate Building at Sunny Bank Mills.
A preview on the evening of Friday 3 March from 6 to 9pm will give people the opportunity to meet the artists and get a sneak preview of their work before the exhibition starts on the Saturday. There will be a performance from a group of Northern School of Contemporary Dance graduates and a guest appearance by Testament: the acclaimed theatre-maker, rapper and Guinness World Record holding beatboxer as featured on Radio 4.
Sunny Bank Mills Gallery is an art, design and culture space housed in a light and tranquil old cloth warehouse in Farsley, Leeds. The Gallery is the creative hub of the Mill and the local community, playing host to a rolling exhibition programme of art by local artists, supporting the performing-arts and concerts within the mill spaces and providing a venue to hire for small events.
