Alex Neish – Brahman's Rehearsal – HELIX Community Showcase

See a virtual reality film by BA Fine Art with History of Art graduate Alex Neish at a HELIX Community Showcase at the University of Leeds.

HELIX is the University's new learning innovation hub for students, staff and the local community.

As the culmination of years of planning around investment to enhance student education at the University of Leeds, it offers cutting-edge digital provision including immersive technologies and cutting-edge multimedia production studios, as well as a physical makerspace.

Find out more at this HELIX Community Showcase event – a combination of staff-led tours, demonstrations of prototyping and immersive technology and a range of project showcases to give an insight into how students have used HELIX in the past year.

Some of the projects include:

• Alex Neish's short VR film 'Brahman's Rehearsal'
• Dibyadyuti – ‘Notes on Blindness', a multi-award winning VR experience about seeing the world through sound.
• Cenario – created by the Digital Education Service to enhance the student experience through extended reality. Find out how VR can offer field trip resources, the experience of being in a cardiac theatre, teach clinical skills to students and more.
• Katie Gardener – showing how dance students can use the Omnideck and how it will effect performances.

About Alex Neish’s film

‘Brahman’s Rehearsal’ is a virtual reality film by BA Fine Art with History of Art graduate Alex Neish that explores the representation of fictional minds within the medium. It is the prelude to a larger project that examines the stories constructed by thoughts about selfhood, memory and identity. In ‘Brahman’s Rehearsal’, you experience the self-communion of Steve, a grief-stricken consciousness who has recently lost his wife.

Alex’s film was premiered at this year’s BA Fine Art Degree Show – Sardines – in June 2024.
