Now in its 11th year, the FUAM Graduate Art Prize exhibition showcases and celebrates the artistic talent of students completing BA studies in Art & Design and Fine Art at the University of Leeds.
This year’s finalists are:
- Georgia D’Silva (BA Fine Art)
- Tim C Huang (BA Art & Design)
- Kalisha Piper-Cheddie (BA Fine Art)
- Ashley Tjang (BA Art & Design)
The artworks featured in this exhibition have been selected from the artists’ final degree shows by an expert panel of judges. The 2023 judges are Ann Allen (Director of Campus Innovation and Development, University of Leeds), Wieke Eringa (Associate Director, Cultural Institute, University of Leeds) and Corinne Miller (Chair, Leeds Art Fund).
Though diverse, these artworks all share a strong commitment to artistic innovation through the use of new or original materials, technologies and processes. In addition, they all show the high ambition, hard work and creativity of the four selected artists.
Kalisha Piper-Cheddie and Ashley Tjang reference their own personal and family histories whilst connecting with wider social issues, particularly around migration and identity. Georgia D’Silva explores the absurdity and ephemerality of student life whilst Tim C Huang highlights the lack of professional archaeological storage in England today.
The judges will return to choose the overall winner of the FUAM Graduate Art Prize 2023.
In addition, visitors are encouraged to vote for their favourite artist for the People’s Choice Award, either online or at the gallery.
Both prize winners will be announced at a public event on Thursday 5 October.
See The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery website for further information including opening times.
