- Date: Wednesday 14 May 2025, 17:15 – 18:30
- Location: English
- Cost: Free admission
Please join us to celebrate the launch of Prof. Bridget Bennett's new book, Antislavery in the Dissenting Atlantic: Archives and Unquiet Libraries, 1776–1865.
This book tasks itself with investigating when, where and how antislavery happened. It pays particular attention to print culture, material culture, and the materiality of print. It examines objects sewn by women including embroidered antislavery samplers and the sewn antislavery workbags and other items. Bringing together cultures of the everyday with better-known events, it seeks to capture antislavery's many forms on both sides of the Atlantic. For further details click here.
The launch event will take place in the foyer of the School of English, 10 Cavendish Road, on the University of Leeds campus, and will be followed by a wine reception in the same venue.
