What made you want to study your course at the University?

The arts have always played a prominent role in my life, and I wanted to pursue them further. Before studying at the University of Leeds I attended an extracurricular theatre school where I learned to dance, sing and act. This also influenced my decision to continue studying the arts in further education. When I attended the open day at Leeds I was so impressed by the facilities, the achievements of previous graduates and the range of opportunities that the course offered, and I realised that it was exactly the kind of course I was looking to study.

Describe the aspects of the course that you have enjoyed the most.

Throughout my three years at Leeds I was a member of Dance Exposé, a student dance society, and was also the society’s secretary in my final year. I enjoyed this so much because it meant I could continue dancing at university. It gave me so many opportunities, like being able to choreograph my own dances for our annual show, and I learned so many transferable skills through my secretarial role. I also made many amazing friends and memories within the society.

During my time studying at Leeds I have developed an interest in immersive theatre, which I was able to explore through my course. In my final year I chose the immersive option for the performance project module and I found this really engaging and enjoyable. We experienced many problems that producing an immersive performance entails and we tackled how to successfully overcome them. I also realised the demand this kind of performance places on the actor, which will help me in the future if I am able to continue to develop my interest in immersive theatre.

What are you planning to do once you graduate?

I am planning on auditioning for drama schools to study a Masters in Acting so that I can further my training and pursue an acting career. Alongside this I am hoping to involve myself in immersive productions and companies, as this is the type of theatre I would like to create.
