Profile
I joined the University of Leeds as the School of Design’s Transformative Educator for Curriculum Redefined and Lecturer in Design Studies in 2022. I am Programme Leader for Art & Design BA (Hons) and School of Design representative for PRiA the centre for Pedagogical Research in the Arts.
I have over twenty years’ experience teaching in higher education in art and design, teaching at institutions across the UK, and in Ireland and Malaysia. I have taught at Foundation, BA and PGT levels, in Fine Art, Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, and Illustration. I am also a qualified teacher of English to speakers of other languages and have taught pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes at Reading and Lancaster universities.
I obtained a PhD from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2015 before undertaking a postdoctoral appointment at Lancaster University.
Responsibilities
- Curriculum Redefined Transformative Educator for the School of Design
- Programme Leader BA Art and Design
- PRiA lead for the School of Design
Research interests
My research is focused on applying dialogue as a framework for practice and understanding within art and design, demonstrating dialogical praxis as the enfolding and performance of knowledge in a manner intended to offset essentialist interpretations of dialogue, art and design. I am currently interested in dialogical approaches to COIL for transnational education, and part of a University-wide team developing educational resources for co-constructing the curriculum conversations.
