School of Design student publishes colouring book in memory of her grandfather

Textile Design student, Emma Ruth Kinnear has published her own mindfulness colouring book in memory of her grandfather.

Emma had helped to care for her grandfather before he sadly passed away earlier this year. It was during this period that she produced a large collection of drawings inspired by wildlife and nature.

Now published in an adult colouring book available on Amazon, the drawings are her way of remembering her grandfather, as well as helping to fund her degree.

Talking about the book Emma said:

“This is very special to me as I began designing it in January 2016 when we found out my grandpa was sick, and it created an escape for me. My grandpa had a very aggressive type of lung cancer, and it was impossible to do anything but help at home. These drawings were the one thing I had to keep me positive, so it means a huge amount to me that I’ve been able to publish them.”

After the publication of her first book titled ‘African Savannah’, Emma has been chosen to feature in a new documentary focusing on the rise of mindfulness and the use of adult colouring books.

Discussing the benefits behind adult colouring books Emma explains:

“For me, mindfulness is about getting rid of the clutter in our lives and minds and learning to focus on the really important things that truly matter to us.”
