Dr Louise K Wilson to present new ‘Cold Art’ programme on Radio 4

Art and Design lecturer Dr Louise Wilson is presenting a new programme on Radio 4 called ‘Cold Art’ on Thursday 12th April at 11.30am.

In the programme, Louise discusses with other artists how the Cold War inspired their art; including School of Design alumni Stephen Felmingham at a Royal Observer Corps post in Norfolk, and Kathrine Sandys at a former RAF hangar in Suffolk; and Louise also visits Field Station Berlin, a former NSA listening station built in the Cold War to intercept communications from the East.

Louise’s research expertise includes landscape/place-orientated art practice, and recent research has used the medium of sound to ask philosophical and material questions about the spatio-temporal physicality of certain sites and our perceptions of them. She has travelled to numerous (military and scientific) sites including nuclear submarines, US listening stations, university halls, marine research environments, rocket launch sites and disused RAF bases in order to research this work.
