Dr Vien Cheung receives global recognition

Dr Vien Cheung has been appointed to the prestigious position of President of the International Colour Association (AIC).

Colour is a core research and educational theme throughout the School of Design so it is with great pride we congratulate Dr Vien Cheung on her 2 year appointment to the prestigious position of President of the International Colour Association (AIC). The AIC is an international organisation spanning 28 countries and five continents which promotes research and education in all aspects of colour, disseminates colour knowledge in science, art, design and industry, and encourages co-operation within those colour industries. To increase awareness of the impact of colour in our everyday lives the AIC established the International Colour Day to celebrate the full spectrum of colour around the world. Vien has already been represented the School at many AIC events and continues to promote AIC and colour in general through online media.

This global recognition of a leading Colour scientist in the School of Design follows on from last year when Professor Stephen Westland was appointed as President of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC). The SDC is a provider of colour education, offering a range of internationally recognised coloration courses and qualifications. Founded in 1884, the SDC was awarded a Royal Charter in 1963 and is the only organisation in the world able to award the Chartered Colourist status. The SDC works globally with its worldwide membership and is a centre for networking and community engagement amongst the coloration industry.

Congratulations to both of our 'Colour Presidents', Vien and Stephen!
