New Polish Partnership for the International Medieval Bibliography
The International Medieval Bibliography (IMB) and its publishers, Brepols, have agreed a partnership with the new Centre for Medieval Studies at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL).
At the end of April 2023, Dr Alan Murray (Director of the International Medieval Bibliography) and Mr Chris VandenBorre (Brepols Publishers) visited Lublin to meet key personnel at the new Centre for Medieval Studies (CSM) at the Catholic University of Lublin.
The CSM was established in 2022, financed by the Polish Ministry of Education and Science, and is led by Dr Paweł Kras, Associate Professor at the Catholic University. Its main activities are editorial and inventory research on the history of medieval Poland, the implementation of modern digital research methods in Polish medieval studies, and the promotion of the work of Polish medievalists at an international level.
Through the agreement with the International Medieval Bibliography (IMB) and Brepols, a team of four researchers under the supervision of Dr Anna Adamska will compile bibliographic records relating to books and articles published in Poland, which will appear in the IMB and its sister publication Bibliographie de Civilisation Médiévale.
This agreement will produce a significant increase in data appearing in the IMB and also give greater visibility to the research of medievalists throughout Poland.
During his visit to Lublin, Dr Murray was received by the vice-rector of the Catholic University, Professor Sister Beata Zarzycka, and provided training to the new Polish bibliography team.
He also took part in a round table on bibliography and databases in Medieval Studies, which attracted a considerable audience and was also streamed online. A recording of the panel discussion is available on the CSM website.
