Miranda Jones and Lucy Davidson selected for FUAM Graduate Art Prize
Art and Design graduates Miranda Jones and Lucy Davidson have been selected as finalists for FUAM Graduate Art Prize 2017 at University of Leeds.
In it’s fifth year the FUAM Graduate Art Prize, supported by the Friends of University Art & Music (FUAM), rewards the artistic excellence of the top students completing studies in Design and Fine Art at the University of Leeds in 2017. The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery will host an exhibition showcasing the work of this year’s four finalists from Wednesday 9 August to Saturday 4 November 2017.
“In complete honesty, I never thought that I would be selected as a finalist,” commented graduate Miranda Jones.
“My artwork investigates the boundaries between image and object and how these elements can co-exist within the same work. The abundance of prehistoric rock carvings in Britain provides the subject focus for my work.”
A panel of three judges from around the Yorkshire region selected the finalists from work on display in the two degree shows at Schools of Design and Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies. In September, the judges will return to select the overall winner of the FUAM Graduate Art Prize. The ‘Best in Show’ graduating student artist of the year will receive £250. Each of the runners-up will receive £100 each to aid them in their developing career as artists. The prizes will be awarded by FUAM in an awards ceremony on 27 September 2017.
