PRiA Workshop: AI Luminaries: Ethical, Greener AI for Educational Empowerment, Knowledge Sustainability and Openness

The session will be led by Antonio Martínez-Arboleda (LCS), Noorhan Abbas (School of Computing) and Prof Mirjam Hauck (The Open University)

Location: Helix Classroom 7.14

This session, open to everyone regardless of prior knowledge, explores a highly promising but sadly sidelined aspect of Generative AI: customisation of AI for reliable subject knowledge and educational enrichment.

The first part of the session will introduce the concept of the "Luminaries", a type of AI assistant based on a novel framework for technological appropriation, with reference to their techno-political foundations and specific projects, notably Lingua Connect (funded by the International Strategy Fund of the University of Leeds).

In the second part, participants will work in small teams to sketch prototype AI Luminaries for specific Arts and Humanities subjects, focusing on use-cases, dialogic scenarios, and knowledge bases.

At the end, a sample of these prototypes may be shown as working Luminaries, hopefully sparking a debate about future activities and projects for Arts and Humanities. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their Luminary sketch with our research and education community.

Please bring a laptop if possible, or be prepared to share one with another participant.

Coffee and biscuits will be available.
