National Play Day at Leeds Art Gallery with Lola Pugh-Cordero

BA Fine Art (International) graduate Lola Pugh-Cordero is taking part in this year's National Play Day at Leeds Art Gallery.

This National Play Day, Leeds Art Gallery and artist Lola Pugh-Cordero welcome children and their adults to join them in celebrating the joy of play in Artspace.

Families are invited to explore art through touch, movement and a shared imagination, through Lola’s soft, tactile sculptures.

Everyone is welcome to be silly, curious and ready to play together!

Full details can be found on the Leeds Art Gallery website.

About Lola Pugh-Cordero

Lola Pugh-Cordero recently graduated with a BA Fine Art (International) degree from the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds.

Lola creates soft sculptures that explore play as a human experience that enhances the everyday, reintroducing the playful attitudes so often disregarded in adulthood. Her practice is grounded in theories of toyification, where her sculptures deliberately imitate childhood toys to increase visual appeal and encourage physical intimacy.

To connect audiences to their personal experiences of play, she combines form, texture and colour to stimulate imagination and transform abstract shapes into something unique to each viewer. At the same time, by introducing soft textures and whimsical colours she hopes to trigger curiosity and a desire for tactile engagement.
