Impactful Pedagogic Research in the Arts Hybrid Slow Conference 2023

Pedagogic Research in the Arts (PRiA) are delighted to announce our hybrid slow conference for 2023, ‘Impactful Pedagogic Research in the Arts’.

After the success of last year's Inaugural Pedagogic Research in the Arts Slow Conference on 'Pedagogical Innovation in the Arts after the Digital Pivot', Pedagogic Research in the Arts (PRiA) are delighted to announce our hybrid slow conference for 2023, ‘Impactful Pedagogic Research in the Arts’.

The theme for this year's slow conference is 'Impactful Pedagogic Research in the Arts' and will be held across the week commencing Monday the 24th of April and concluding on Tuesday the 2nd of May 2023. The conference will be held in a hybrid format, in person on campus at the University of Leeds, and online via the PRiA Teams Channel.

This year's conference will build on PRiA's 'Curriculum Redefined Conversations' series, and the PRiA & Organisational Development and Professional Learning (ODPL) 'Engaging Curriculum Redefined Working Conversations', and will reflect the pedagogical research undertaken by colleagues in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Cultures, University of Leeds.

  • How can pedagogical research in the arts be ‘impactful’, in the sense of bringing about meaningful change?
  • What kind of change can pedagogical research bring about, and why might ‘the arts’ be an important site to investigate this?
  • What might be particularly impactful about pedagogical research in the arts?
  • How might pedagogical research in the arts bring about change beyond the classroom, virtual learning environment, or organisational unit?
  • To what extent might ‘impact’, a word often used in the context of the Research Excellence Framework, be generative or, alternatively, unhelpful in the context of pedagogical research?
  • How can collaboration generate impactful pedagogical research in the arts?

The conference will welcome individuals and groups of practitioners, including students and participants from outside of the University of Leeds.

Events will take place across the week commencing Monday 24 April 2023 in person and online and will conclude on Tuesday 2 May 2023.

Contributors include:

  • External Keynote from Professor Vicky Gunn, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
  • Professor Melanie Prideaux, Pro Dean for Student Education, School of Philosophy, Religion, and History of Science, Faculty of Arts Humanities and Cultures, University of Leeds.
