Dr Pınar Yelmi


I joined University of Leeds in 2022 as a Lecturer in Digital and Interactive Design and I teach at fully online MA Digital Design and Communication.

I received my Bachelor’s degree from the department of Industrial Design at Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Türkiye, 2008), my Master’s degree from the department of Visual Communication Design at Politecnico di Milano (Milano, Italy, 2012) and my PhD degree from Design, Technology, Society program at Koç University (Istanbul, Türkiye, 2012–2017). After receiving my PhD, I taught in Visual Communication Design Department at Işık University (Istanbul, Türkiye, 2018–2022) where I also have managed the programs of both undergraduate and graduate degrees for around 1,5 years.

Research interests

My research interests fall under the areas of interaction design, human-centered design and participatory design. I conduct research projects mainly on interactive experiences, interactive storytelling and interactive data visualization. Besides, I have also deep interest in cultural heritage, museum studies, soundscape studies and sensory studies which contributes to my research with a multidisciplinary approach.
