Dr Dibyadyuti Roy

With the experience of being a researcher and an educator in multidisciplinary academic environments across three different continents, my teaching and scholarship facilitates public and cultural policymaking by putting data‚Äźdriven knowledge into collaboration and friction with interpretive and exploratory humanistic inquiry.

I am the current Vice-President and founding member of India's first Digital Humanities collective: the Digital Humanities Alliance for Research and Teaching Innovations (DHARTI), previously Digital Humanities Alliance of India (DHAI), and have spearheaded the inaugural DHAI Conference in 2018 (#DHAI2018), the first DHARTI Twitter Conference (#DHARTITwitterConf) as well as the recently concluded #DHARTI2022 Conference on The Digital Divides: Discontents, Debates and Discussions.

I lead numerous public outreach initiatives for Digital Humanities including the DHARTISpeaks! Series and I am also a member of the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organization's global Intersectional Inclusion Task Force.

Before joining the University of Leeds, I was a faculty member at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore as well as at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur.

Research interests

My core interest is in advancing data-driven research and teaching interventions in Digital Media and Culture(s) that amplify and dialogue with non-normative and minority subjectivities as well as the interconnected structural inequities of race, caste, class and gender.

As a representative sample my recent work has engaged with issues of Algorithmic Accountability in the Global South(s), the role of social media health promotion during Covid 19 in India, the performances of anxious postcolonial masculinity in online spaces, as well as the possibilities and challenges of Indian Digital Humanities.
