Profile

Alumni of the University of Glasgow (MChem, 2012-2017), Nathaniel completed his PhD at the University of Leeds (2018-2021) courtesy of Clothworkers’ Company funding and subsequently worked as a Research Fellow at Leeds (2021-2025). His research has been supported through a range of academic, industrial and commercialisation initiatives. He was awarded a John Lewis Innovation Award and received support through the Clothworkers' Company LITAC Development Project, helping translate fundamental research into practical industrial applications. He also undertook entrepreneurial and commercialisation training through the Northern Talent Triangle (NTT) Scholarship programme and its associated mentorship programme, developing expertise in innovation management, intellectual property strategy and the commercial deployment of scientific research. Nathaniel is the co-founder and CEO of SwitchDye Ltd, a University of Leeds spin-out based on his 8 years of academic research at the University of Leeds, developing sustainable dyeing technologies for the textile industry.

Research interests

Colour chemistry, green chemistry, textile chemistry, sustainability, colouration, polymer chemistry, & circular processes.
