This PRIA funded project examined global scholarship and pedagogy of international communication, in support of the development of a textbook the presenters are co-authoring.

The session will combine critical and practical components. The critical section will discuss the rationale to decolonize teaching within media and communication and how that work has been taken up. We reflect on the examination of existing texts and syllabi in the field which we have undertaken to inform a decolonised pedagogy.

The practical component addresses how to find resources to support efforts to teach the global aspects of media and communication from a decolonised perspective.  We offer tips for finding supporting materials including examples and scholarship originating in the Majority World.  We discuss how access to Southern scholarship has changed in the digital/open environment and how structures for publication and indexing privilege/silence different authors.
