Leeds International Piano Competition
Leeds International Piano Competition 2021
Leeds International Piano Competition is one of the world’s best-known music competitions, and since its inception in 1963 ‘The Leeds’ has attracted exceptional young pianists from around the globe.
In partnership with world-renowned organisations, performers and ambassadors, the School of Music and the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures is proud to support and celebrate Leeds as a leading destination for music and the arts.
The first round of the competition took place in April 2021, with 22 competitors from 18 different countries now shortlisted. The second round, semi-finals and final will take place between 8th – 18th September 2021.
As part of the celebrations for the competition, there is a piano trail across the city between 4th – 19th September. This features art and sculpture, as well as 10 playable pianos in public spaces for members of the community to enjoy.
At a time of great uncertainty, including for live performance, it is wonderful to have this model of excellence as a focus for what can be achieved and for our hopes for the future.
