Leeds International Piano Competition 2021
Leeds International Piano Competition is one of the world’s best-known music competitions, and since its inception in 1963 ‘The Leeds’ has attracted exceptional young pianists from around the globe.
In partnership with world-renowned organisations, performers and ambassadors, the School of Music and the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures is proud to support and celebrate Leeds as a leading destination for music and the arts.
The first round of the competition took place in April 2021, with 22 competitors from 18 different countries shortlisted. The second round, semi-finals and final took place between 8th – 18th September 2021.
As part of the celebrations for the competition, there was a piano trail across the city between 4th – 19th September. This featured art and sculpture, as well as 10 playable pianos in public spaces for members of the community to enjoy.
At a time of great uncertainty, including for live performance, it is wonderful to have this model of excellence as a focus for what can be achieved and for our hopes for the future.
