Visiting Artist's Talk - Oswaldo Maciá

Oswaldo Maciá was born (1960) in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, is now based in London and runs a studio in Leeds.

He creates olfactory-acoustic sculptures that have been exhibited internationally, including the first public sound-sculpture in the southern hemisphere, recently unveiled in Bogotá. His solo exhibition ‘Equations (Olfactory-Acoustic Sculpture)’ opened this month at El Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM) (Las Palmas, 2017), and last year his work was presented at Tate Britain (London) and the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (Mexico City). Maciá collaborates with a master perfumer to create unique scents in response to his research. The visual elements of his work combine sculptures, site-responsive installations and working drawings, which together stimulate questions and all of the senses.

For this event, the artist will be in conversation with Lisa Le Feuvre, Head of Sculpture Studies at the Henry Moore Institute (Leeds).

The venue for this talk is Lecture Theatre 21, Roger Stevens Building, University of Leeds. Directions to the venue can be found online here.

The VAT series hosts talks by an exciting range of arts practitioners from around the world every Monday afternoon 14:00 to 15:30 during teaching weeks.

All of our talks are compulsory for all Fine Art students but open to anyone else who would like to join us.
