Visiting Artist’s Talk – Daniel F Herrmann

For this week's Visiting Artist's Talk we welcome Daniel F Herrmann, Curator of Modern & Contemporary Projects at the National Gallery in London.

Daniel F. Herrmann is Curator of Modern & Contemporary Projects at the National Gallery in London, where he and his team relate the historical collection to contemporary art and culture through exhibitions, commissions and residencies. He was previously Curator at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh and the Eisler Curator and Head of Curatorial Studies at the Whitechapel Gallery in London. 

Recent exhibitions include ‘Lucian Freud – New Perspectives’ (2022), ‘Bridget Riley: Messengers’ (2019) and ‘Rachel Maclean: The Lion and The Unicorn’ (2018). Previous exhibitions at the Whitechapel Gallery include retrospectives of Eduardo Paolozzi (2017), Hannah Höch (2014) and Gillian Wearing (2012) as well as group shows such as ‘The London Open 2015’ and ‘The Max Mara Art Prize for Women’. 

He is currently working on a nationwide performance work by Turner-Prize-winning artist, Jeremy Deller (2025), and completing the Catalogue Raisonné of the prints of British artist Eduardo Paolozzi.

The Visiting Artist’s Talk (VAT) series hosts talks by an exciting range of arts practitioners from around the world every Monday afternoon from 2 to 4pm during teaching weeks.

All of our talks are compulsory for our Fine Art students but are also open to anyone else who would like to join us.

Directions to Chemistry Lecture Theatre B

See the campus map for the location of the Chemistry building.

Go through the Chemistry main entrance, turn right, follow the corridor round to the left, go through the double doors and the lift and stairs are both immediately on your right.

Either go up 1.5 flights of stairs to an upper landing and Chemistry Lecture Theatre B is at the end of the landing on your right or take the lift to the 2nd floor, turn left upon exiting and Chemistry Lecture Theatre B is at the end of the landing on your right.
