Visiting Artist’s Talk – Eduardo Padilha

In a change to our programme, Eduardo Padilha’s talk has been postponed to a later date.

Our speaker for Monday 31 October will be Cesar Cornejo –  an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the relationship between art, architecture and society. Find out about Cesar Cornejo’s talk.

Eduardo Padilha’s practice evaluates and processes his relationship to his surrounding environment and how his identity can be perceived and framed by this predicament. Eduardo works with found materials and reassembles them to reflect an experience where private and public domains intersect. The appropriation, deployment, and dislocation of the object are the points of departure that search for new modes of signification.

His practice reflects a relationship to domestic space and how that space and its objects can become a surrogate of the self. Most of the objects interpreted are readymade and encountered in Eduardo’s daily routine, brought to the studio and reassessed through a process of interventions that include casting, drawing, sewing, welding, scanning, to reconfigure the object. This process takes the object to another stage to reveal other qualities, become something else but still retaining the significance of its initial propose.

Eduardo Padilha studied at the Carnegie Mellon University (1993) and has a BA in Fine Arts from Gerrit Rietveld Academie (1995) and MA Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Art & Design (1997). He has lectured at Stephen Lawrence Gallery (2019), Camberwell College of Art (2019), Publics, Helsinki (2018) and Bard College (2016).

Recent exhibitions include We are the centre at Hessel Museum of Art and We are the (Epi)center at P-Exclamation, curated by Paul O’Neill, NY, USA, and a solo exhibition at London Art Fair with InIVA, 2016. Eduardo founded an artist run space, BalinHouseProjects, in 2006.
