Beginning a Career in Art ― Open Discussion

In the latest in our Visiting Artists Talks series, four guests from our regional partner organisations will discuss their practices and early-career experiences in the art industry.

This event has been cancelled.

We are sorry to say that our final two Visiting Artist's Talks for this academic year cannot be held 'live' in the lecture theatre.

The sessions were due to take place this Monday 16 March and next Monday 23 March, 2-4pm.

About the artists

Adam Burntown is an artist based in Leeds. He is also Research Assistant and Receptionist at the Henry Moore Institute, co-founder and committee member of Serf, and a freelance art technician/handler. Upcoming shows include Packing Problems at Serf (Leeds, March–April 2020) and Serf Sonnet at Vitrine (London, July–September 2020).

Holly Grange is the newly-appointed exhibitions curator at Leeds Art Gallery and was curator of the Musgrave Kinley Outsider Art Collection at the Whitworth (Manchester). She has previously worked at S1 (Sheffield), The Hepworth Wakefield and Tate St Ives, and is currently also a regional editor for the art-writing platform, Corridor8.

Lily Lavorato uses sculpture and drawing to explore bodily understandings of new places and imagined scenarios. She recently completed The Art House graduate residency (Wakefield) and is currently working as Programme and Marketing Coordinator for Yorkshire Sculpture International.

Damon Jackson-Waldock is Deputy Curator at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, an international centre for modern and contemporary art set in 500 acres of historic parkland, five galleries, and an 18th-century chapel. He is also Guest Curator for the sculpture commission at The Piece Hall (Halifax) and a Career Mentor at Sheffield Hallam University.

All of our talks are compulsory for our Fine Art students but open to anyone else who would like to join us.
