Ann-Marie LeQuesne is an artist living and working in London. She stages collaborative performances, often working with groups of people in public places.
In her films, participants are invited to act out a range of roles, using elements of re-enactment and ritual. Through the interpretation of these roles, audiences are immersed in the details and sounds of everyday routines in a new way.
Stage exhibits a range of Ann-Marie LeQuesne’s work that addresses stage and staging as both noun and verb. The participants are both ‘on stage’ and actively ‘staging’ a version of themselves.
The works themselves also have stages through different commands and actions, such as the stages of entering, watching and leaving the cinema in LeQuesne’s latest film, the trailer for The Audience ― filmed at the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies earlier this year.
The exhibition is curated by MA Arts Management and Heritage Studies students Yanyue Cao, Han Guo, Siyuan Huang and Quan Wei. With thanks to Jenny Handley, Rob Knifton, Arran Rees, Fiona Blair and Ann-Marie LeQuesne.
Stage is part of a wider series of exhibitions and projects undertaken by MA students as part of an Interpretations module. Join us at the launch event for all 10 projects on Thursday 13 December: see here for full details.
