This online lecture will discuss French-Lebanese slam poet Marc Nammour's '99' project.
The lecture by Professor Martin Stokes (King Edward Professor of Music at King’s College London) and chaired by Professor Kamal Salhi (Chair in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies) is open to staff, student and postgraduate researchers at the University of Leeds.
The lecture will discuss French-Lebanese slam poet Marc Nammour's '99' project, realised in 2016 at Royaumont (a former Cistercian abbey, now a major centre for French new music).
It will consider Royaumont itself as a particular kind of sonorous assembly and '99' as a figure of abjection and multitude.
The lecture will ask what lessons might be drawn from the project in the light of ongoing postcolonial critiques of citizenship.
