Colour4CRAFTS is the final exhibition from the European Union–funded Colour4CRAFTS research project, presenting three years of interdisciplinary work exploring the future of natural dyes and bio‑based colourants in textile and fashion practice.
Bringing together research from scientists, designers, artists and craft practitioners across Europe, the exhibition highlights how traditional knowledge and advanced technologies can converge to create more sustainable approaches to colouration. Displays include research outputs, material samples, videos of work in progress, industry collaborations, student work using natural dyes, and the finalists from the International Student Textile Design Competition.
Opening Event
Monday 11 May, 16:30–18:00
The exhibition opens with a public Opening Event, featuring an introductory talk by Professor Riikka Räisänen, Principal Investigator of the Colour4CRAFTS project. The event is free and open to all.
About the project
Colour4CRAFTS (“Colour for Combining, Re‑engineering, Applying, Futuring, Transforming, Stretching”) is a multidisciplinary research project funded by the European Union Horizon programme. The project is led by the University of Helsinki and delivered in collaboration with partner institutions across Europe, including the University of Leeds. It focuses on developing sustainable, bio‑based colouration practices by integrating historical research, craft knowledge, scientific innovation and future‑focused design.
