Dr Liesbeth Birchall

Profile

My background is in Chemistry and I completed my master’s degree at the University of Liverpool. I was drawn towards interdisciplinary research and materials development, which led me to undertake a PhD in additive manufacture at the University of Nottingham. My interest in functional polymers and sustainable manufacturing then led me to textiles research here at the University of Leeds, where I have worked in mechanical and chemical recycling and in the spinning of fibres from industrial waste sources. My current research is focused on spinning of natural and cellulosic fibres from renewable waste sources for the development of biodegradable absorbent hygiene products.
