I am a Lecturer in the School of Design with a background in graphic communication and journalism. Prior to joining the University of Leeds, I have taught in the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication at Reading as an Associate Lecturer.
I have been active as a a practising design professional since 2007 working as an editorial designer at Esquire (Senior Designer) and Arhitectura (Art Director) magazines in Bucharest, Romania. Between 2012 and 2017 I headed the design department at the Doha Film Institute in Qatar and worked on international cultural projects such as the Doha Tribeca Film Festival, TEDxSummit, and Romanian Design Week. I have also collaborated with artists and photographers on various book design projects.
My research interests are cross-disciplinary in nature and include archival research, British and international graphic design history, editorial design, self-directed forms of graphic practice, and the interrelation between graphic design and typography and social and cultural practices. My PhD research put forward a cross-disciplinary approach to investigate how visual artefacts are reflected by, and contribute to, ideology. I am currently developing a research project which applies the same set of methods to examine the writing system reforms in the nineteenth century in Eastern Europe.
Research projects

Any research projects I'm currently working on will be listed below.
