Richard Gee

Profile

I have been the printmaking technician at the School of Design since 2013, I offer my Printmaking expertise and advice to all students who use the print studio. I have a fine art background and studied painting at Canterbury college of Art where I graduated with a first class honours degree in 1986.

Prior to coming to work at the University of Leeds I worked in various London fine art etching studios and my own studio space in Yorkshire where I have editioned prints for artists that included, Victor Passmore, Paula Rego, Anish Kapoor, Eileen Cooper, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Tracy Emin, Anthony Gormley, Damien Hirst and Sir Terry Frost. The printing experience I gained from those studios is immeasurable and I was able to learn from some of the most respected printmakers in the country, most notably Hugh Stoneman and Sara Lee at the Print Centre in Covent Garden and Islington, Simon Marsh and Pete Kosowicz at Hope Sufferance press in Camberwell and Mike Taylor at Paupers Press in Hoxton.

In the terms of my own art practice, I continue to paint and make prints and have exhibited my work on many occasions. Exhibitions have included solo shows at the Huddersfield Art Gallery in 2005, Cupola Gallery in Sheffield, Smith Art Gallery in Brighouse, and Peach Gallery in Holmfirth. I have also shown work in Bessancon in France.
