Irresistible Distanceexplores artist Hondartza Fraga’s fascination with remote landscapes and our attempts to capture them.

Fraga’s work explores spatial, temporal, emotional, cultural and imagined distances — exposing our fascination with miniaturising the world.

Images of stars and planets from outdated books about space exploration become abstractions and earth globes become blank, across animation, drawing and photography.

Hondarza Fraga has begun PhD studies in the School of Design funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council through an award from the White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH) and is supervised by Dr Judith Tucker and Deborah Gardner.

Fraga (b.1982, Cabanas, A Coruña, Spain) graduated from a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at The University of the Basque Country (Spain) in 2005 and completed an MA in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University in 2007. She has exhibited nationally (Liverpool, London, Sheffield) and internationally (Portugal, Spain, Norway, Istanbul, Italy).
