Textiles Technology in Action - January 2026

This course builds on the fundamentals covered in our Introduction to Textile Technology course with hands-on activities and practical demonstrations.

Professional Academy for Creative Enterprise (PACE) onsite courses offer a range of in-person teaching and learning experiences at our University of Leeds campus.

Participants will explore fibre properties, yarn creation, spinning, nonwoven manufacturing, and fabric types while gaining practical experience in knitting, weaving, and textile testing. They will deepen their understanding of textile technology and its real-world applications through hands-on practice and witnessing these processes firsthand in our state-of-the-art facilities.

What Will You Learn?

  • Hands-on exploration of textile concepts, working directly with various fibre types, their properties, and practical applications across different textiles.
  • Participate in practical activities to understand yarn manufacturing processes, analysing how different yarn characteristics affect fabric performance in real-world scenarios.
  • Experience the differences between woven, knitted, and nonwoven fabrics through practical manufacturing demonstrations and activities.
  • Learn spinning techniques in state-of-the-art labs, transforming raw fibres into yarn for various textile applications.
  • Explore weaving and industrial knitting techniques, experimenting to understand their impact on fabric characteristics and creating diverse stitch structures and fabrics with various yarns.
  • Conduct textile testing to understand fabric performance, quality, and durability, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
