Exhibition at the Waterside Arts Centre curated by BA Fine Art alumna
BA Fine Art alumna Georgia Taylor Aguilar has curated a new exhibition with the Cosgrove Hall Films Archive, which opened in October at Waterside Arts Centre in Sale, Manchester.
The exhibition celebrates animations created by Cosgrove Hall Films through their archive, which has recently relocated to Waterside Arts Centre.
The Cosgrove Hall Films exhibition reveals the hidden work behind popular television programmes such as Danger Mouse, Wind in the Willows, Noddy, Bill and Ben the Flower Pot Men, Postman Pat and many more. Visitors can expect to see original puppets, story boards and props being exhibited together for the first time, alongside behind-the-scenes insights into the creative processes that brought this array of beloved characters to the screen.
This exhibition is curated by Georgia Taylor Aguilar, an artist/curator and a recent BA Fine Art graduate from the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds.
Georgia recently took part in Waterside’s new Curator Incubator scheme ― funded by Arts Council England ― to build skills for emerging and mid-career curators. The scheme offers curatorial opportunities to emerging curators through exhibitions in Waterside’s physical and digital spaces.
Beyond this exhibition, Georgia will continue to receive mentoring from the venue, to further her skills as a curator and arts practitioner.
Georgia Taylor Aguilar said:
“This exhibition highlights hidden processes of a significant British animation studio, with favourite characters seen by four generations of viewers.
“Spending time with this sentimental archive has been a pleasure, and impossible not to fall in love with the wonderful characters.
“Curating the BA Fine Art Degree Show earlier this year gave me great experience in this field and was great preparation for working on the Cosgrove Hall Films exhibition. I will be using these skills further in my new role as Public Programmes and Residencies Producer at The Tetley in Leeds.’”
Other contributors to the exhibition project include Brian Cosgrove (Director of Cosgrove Hall Films), Barry Purves (animator), and Ian Mackinnon and Peter Saunders (behind Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr Fox and Isle of Dogs, and Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride).
