2025 Brings New Onsite Professional Development Courses with PACE

The Professional Academy for Creative Enterprise (PACE), an organisation within the School of Design at the University of Leeds, bridges academic research and industry practice

to empower businesses and professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. In 2025, PACE will introduce a new series of onsite courses to help professionals develop essential skills and expertise in fashion and textiles through practical, industry-focused learning experiences. 

PACE’s onsite courses provide a valuable opportunity for participants to engage with experts in a hands-on learning environment. Participants will benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities and carefully curated course content, ensuring a practical and goal-oriented approach to skill development. Whether enhancing your expertise or exploring a new industry area, these courses are tailored to meet diverse professional needs.  

While PACE’s online courses are ideal for flexible learning, the onsite format offers the advantage of real-time interaction and collaboration. Participants will receive direct instructor feedback, engage in group learning experiences, and gain hands-on practice with professional tools and resources. Starting in January 2025, the initial selection of courses addresses key areas in Fashion & Textiles, with more planned for later in the year.  

Introduction to Textiles Technology (1 day) 

27th – 28th January 2025 

Explore the basics of textile production, including fibre properties, yarn creation, and fabric construction. The course is perfect for professionals seeking a deeper understanding of the textiles industry.  

Sustainable Textiles and Fashion (1 day)  

19th February & 29th April 2025 

This course examines the critical sustainability challenges in fashion, providing participants with tools and insights to address these issues effectively. Using case studies and exploring current regulations, attendees will gain practical strategies for driving sustainable change.  

Introduction to Knitwear (2 days)

1st – 2nd April 2025 | Fully Booked
23rd – 24th September 2025

Learn the essentials of knitwear production, including yarn selection, stitch structures, and manufacturing techniques. This hands-on course allows participants to work directly with industrial knitting machines.  

Garment Pattern Cutting (2 days)  

9th –10th April 2025   

This course introduces participants to the fundamentals of garment pattern cutting through structures theory and guided practical sessions. Ideal for those looking to build confidence in understanding patterns. 

Each course combines expert instruction, practical application, and collaborative learning, providing a balanced and engaging educational experience.
