The other half of the work: organisational maintenance at Bloc Projects
- Date: Monday 23 November 2026, 13:00 – 14:30
- Location: Liberty Building LT (LG.06)
- Cost: Free
The next speaker in our ARTFUL talks series is Sunshine Wong, art worker, researcher, facilitator and Director of Bloc Projects.
In this talk, Sunshine Wong will offer a moment of taking stock, of considering the resources it has taken for Sheffield's Bloc Projects to survive and of the energy it takes to continually swim upstream.
From an examination of the everyday minutiae to broader reflections of what is typically thought of as the drudgery of administration, this talk candidly presents the cost and the labour – both personal and professional – involved in keeping smaller, more radical art organisations afloat.
There will be an open conversation at the end to talk through what moving from surviving to flourishing could look like for artists and organisations alike.
Biography
Dr Yet Chor Sunshine Wong (Sunshine) is an art worker, researcher and facilitator. She was an art teacher in Hong Kong where she was born and raised, and later moved to Berlin to complete her MA and curate live art events. Via affect and queer studies, her PhD proposed a socially negotiated art that takes place through the relational material.
At Bloc Projects, she has been working on what it means to be a holistically collaborative and accessible art space. In the last few years, she has commissioned and co-developed projects by Una Helle Hamilton and Verity Birt; Chris Alton and Emily Simpson; and C & G Artpartment amongst others. She is also a keen knitter.
