The Writers' Room: open day

Ushering in The Writers’ Room, a new residency space with The Wild Pansy Press at the Florence Trust’s recently converted Holy Trinity Church in Islington, London.

For practitioners at the intersection of art and literature, The Writers’ Room invites writers / screenwriters / filmmakers / visual artists / sound artists / designers/ thinkers to come and utilise the space for short or longer periods; to make from scratch or complete new work, to present, to test, to grow.

Come and join us on Sunday 21 April for an open day of screenings and books, with readings from 3-4pm. There will be an opportunity to find out more about The Writers’ Room and how to put in an application to use the space.

There is no need to book, just turn up.

About The Writers’ Room

The Writers’ Room is a working and meeting space made available to The Wild Pansy Press by The Florence Trust as part of their new studios and gallery development in the former Holy Trinity Church building in Cloudesley Square, Islington.

It will be a site for intense full- or part-time residential periods at the intersection of fine art and literature – be that of art writing, memoir, auto-fiction, science fiction, fan-fiction, zine culture, sound art, broadcasting or the spoken word.

The space will be available as a working studio, but can also be reimagined for outcomes such as exhibitions, publication launches, performances, screenings or symposia. The Writers’ Room is a working space with scope for intimate or public-facing engagements. We imagine it fostering connectivity across demographics and practices.

The Writers’ Room offers practitioners working with text, image, voice and recording a place to find respite and a space to develop projects; a place to create something new, imagining and transforming through the power of language.

We invite proposals from artists and writers who would be interested in spending a productive period of time using the Writers’ Room as a creative base for periods of between 4 to 6 weeks, working towards the production of an appropriate body of work in any medium.

About The Wild Pansy Press

The Wild Pansy Press was established in 1995 by Simon Lewandowski and Chris Taylor. It is a collective art practice and small publishing house which has built up a considerable catalogue of books and projects, often linking a publication to an exhibition in ways which extend and confound the usual notions of a catalogue.

Based in Leeds and London, The Wild Pansy Press actively develops partnerships with other groups to build a network of practitioners who explore and advance publication – in its widest sense – as both a distributional strategy and medium of practice.
