Lucy Smith sheds light on a career in development. What makes a good idea? How do you get it on screen? How are changing viewing habits disrupting the way we develop TV formats? And - perhaps most importantly - how can you get your foot in the door?

Lucy Smith is a development executive at Leeds-based Wise Owl Films where she runs the development team, overseeing a slate of new format ideas and access documentaries for British and international broadcasters. Prior to joining Wise Owl, she has worked in development teams at BBC Creative Label, betty, Firecracker Films and MultiStory Media, with credits including Drawers Off (C4), Gone to Pot (ITV), You Are What You Wear (BBC1) and The Big Flower Fight (Netflix).
