School of Media and Communication

From political campaigns and the reporting of news to popular culture and our social relationships, communication and media are at the centre of everyday life.

Our School brings together a collaborative community of researchers, educators and students to advance knowledge and understanding of media and communication environments. Working with external partners, we also seek to shape policy and practice and contribute to positive social change.

Building on our history as a pioneer in media and communication, we’re a highly-ranked department with a commitment to excellence in education and research. Today, the School is home to around sixty academic staff members and educates around one thousand students every year. Our teaching programmes span most major aspects of media and communication and reflect the latest developments in the field.

The School of Media and Communication is actively working to build a diverse and inclusive school community that supports all staff and students. Visit the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures’ Equality and Inclusion page to find out how to contact our School EDI Lead and access news, student resources and further information on EDI initiatives.

Our undergraduate degree courses combine strengths in communication and media research with the teaching of communication history, theory and practical skills.
