- Supervisors: Dr Yuan Zeng, Dr Sara Tafakori
Profile
I am a PhD student in the School of Media and Communication, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. Before this, I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Toronto and a Master's degree in Social Policy and Social Development from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Research interests
My research focuses on Chinese social media platforms, with particular interests in the online discursive formation of neoliberal gender ideologies inspired by population and economic policy reforms in late 20th-century China. I pay special attention to “Xiaohongshu”, a niche micro-blogging platform primarily for young females in China. My research also aims to explore their implications for class and gender relations as well as internet regulatory regimes in contemporary Chinese society.
