Profile

I am a PhD student at the School of Media and Communication, supervised by Professor Yvonne Tasker, Dr. Joanne Armitage, and Dr. Miriam Kent. My work centres on female intimacies and popular culture, exploring queer fandom cultures and female-centred narratives in film and media. I seek to understand how these stories shape cultural discourses and unsettle dominant perspectives, and I am particularly drawn to the affective and imaginative spaces that emerge when women and queer audiences encounter one another through the screen.

Before beginning my doctoral studies, I worked as a Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration at The University of Hong Kong, under the SWSB Research Team of Prof. Gloria Wong. In this role, I contributed to a range of policy-based projects on youth mental health, ageing, and the experiences of older adults living with dementia and their carers. My expertise spans diverse research methodologies, including large-scale quantitative surveys, situation analysis, in-depth interviews, and ethnography studies.

Alongside my academic research, I am a film critic, writer, and columnist for The Initium , where I write on contemporary queer cultural narratives and phenomena. I also serve as Co-Lead Curator of the Odyssey UK Film Festival, a cross-cultural platform that fosters dialogue between East and West through film diplomacy. In this role, I am dedicated to introducing the works of emerging Hong Kong young talented filmmakers to international audiences and to bringing queer narratives to the forefront of public conversation—using cinema as a bridge for empathy, understanding, and cultural exchange.

I also engage in public discourse focusing on queer culture and media within the Chinese communicative landscape. I have been featured in a range of sociology, media, and gender-focused podcasts and channels including The Initium and BBC Chinese. In addition,I actively involved in feminist initiatives across Hong Kong and mainland China, contributing to dialogues that advocate for gender equality and cultural inclusion.
