How can we make media anti-racist?

The rise of the far right, the impacts of Covid-19, and mediated evidence of racist police violence have shattered the notion that racism is a thing of the past. As anti-racist movements grow and authoritarian forces try to suppress them, we must ask: How can media systems be transformed to actively challenge racism, rather than just be ‘less racist’? What should an anti-racist media look like?

In their new book, The Anti-Racist Media Manifesto, Saha, Sobande, and Titley tackle these critical questions, focusing on the problems of impartiality, the limits of diversity and representation, and the contradictions of digital culture. Together they reveal how media perpetuates racism and through their book they offer strategies to reshape systems, policies, and practices toward an anti-racist media future.

Come join us and celebrate the launch of this new book, where the authors reflect on it, especially in relation to forms of imperialism, and the far-right activity across Europe during the summer of 2024.
