Media Futures: Reporting on the Pandemic for ITV News

Join Margaret Emsley (Head of ITV Yorkshire from 2011-2019) as she discusses how her news team had to adapt to reporting in the lockdown.

Please note this is an online event. Visit the MyCareer events calendar for more information, joining instructions and to reserve your place.

Margaret Emsley talks about how her news team responded to working during the Covid-19 lockdown. As news audiences increased, journalists were telling stories about the impact of the pandemic across Yorkshire whilst adhering to strict safety measures to keep themselves and their contributors free from the virus.

Margaret was Head of News at ITV Yorkshire's Calendar for nine years before she left ITV this summer to pursue a portfolio career, and is currently training to be a freelance Programme Editor at BBC Breakfast.

She started her TV news career 23 years ago, joining Calendar as a Bulletin Producer before progressing to News Editor, then Producer and Programme Editor before taking charge of the department.

After graduating in Economics with Media Studies, Margaret began her career in weekly newspapers before working for eight years at the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Margaret also jointly organised the Media Trust's Breaking into News competition, which aimed to give a diverse range of people without a journalism background an opportunity to report for ITV news.
