Launch: Stories in Motion

Postgraduate Researcher Clare Carter Osborne's short film 'Our Wider Flesh' (2024) is included in a new 'Stories in Motion' exhibition in Huddersfield.

Join Clare and other featured artists to celebrate the launch of Stories in Motion – an exhibition celebrating the culture, communities, and stories of Kirklees, showcasing films and moving image works, submitted by the community of Kirklees, that celebrate, challenge, inform, and inspire change.

Running from Monday 26 January to Friday 1 May 2026, the exhibition brings together films from across the district, including narratives connected to Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Spen Valley, Batley, Holme Valley, Colne Valley and Denby Dale.

About ‘Our Wider Flesh’

Clare Carter Osbourne is a multi-disciplinary artist and researcher with a history of songwriting, music composition and performance. Her practice is auto-ethnographic and engages with site-specific projects that explore the human attachment to landscape and notions of world-making.

Clare finished her MA Fine Art in September 2022 at the University of Leeds. She was awarded a White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH) doctoral training scholarship for her PhD research project in the School of Fine Art, History of Art & Cultural Studies.

Exploring bodies and land enclosure through the lens of motherhood, ‘Our Wider Flesh’ (2024) is set around a building site in a field near the artist's terraced house in the village of Denby Dale.

Carter Osbourne’s fiim takes its name from an essay written by cultural ecologist David Abram, who describes the journeys of migratory animals such as the Monarch Butterfly and Sockeye Salmon through the sensory exchange that guides them across the surface of the Earth to reproduce.
