Visiting Artist’s Talk – David Gilbert

For this week's Visiting Artist's Talk we welcome curator, producer, project manager and educator, David Gilbert.

David Gilbert has developed and delivered exhibitions, programmes and projects in the visual arts, working for organisations and freelance in galleries, in public spaces, in a site-responsive manner and within heritage sites and festivals.

David has also led organisations of varying sizes and kinds  some like Creative Partnerships working across sectors, and others like The Art House having buildings and studio space, with artist development at the core of their purpose.

He has spent seven years teaching on the BA History of Art, Design and Film at Sheffield Hallam and three years on the MA Curation Practices at Leeds Arts University.

David is passionate about creating opportunities for artists and has raised substantial funding throughout his professional career to support organisations and projects.

David’s recent work includes: Director of Bloc Projects in Sheffield; previously Freelance Strategic Programme Producer for Artcore Gallery in Derby; D-LAB, an online commissioning project for Derbyshire; Freelance Development Manager with Primary studios in Nottingham; Freelance Programme Producer for The Art House in Wakefield.

David also frequently works with artists to develop, fund and produce their projects, and has recently joined the Board of AA2A as a Director.

About the Visiting Artists’ Talks series

The Visiting Artist’s Talk (VAT) series hosts talks by an exciting range of arts practitioners from around the world every Monday afternoon from 2 to 4pm during teaching weeks.

All of our talks are compulsory for our Fine Art students but are also open to anyone else who would like to join us. There’s no need to book – please just turn up!

See the campus map for location of the Roger Stevens building.

Enter the Roger Stevens building at levels 6 (lower ground), 7 (ground floor) or 10 (red route), take the lift or stairs to level 10 where you will find Roger Stevens Lecture Theatre 24.
