About the exhibition

Housed in Castlefield Gallery’s distinct architect-designed interior, 40 Years of the Future: Jo McGonigal x Frank Bowling will bring together site-specific ‘spatial paintings’ by Dr Jo McGonigal (UK artist and Fine Art lecturer in the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds) with paintings and sculptures by Sir Frank Bowling OBE RA.

Each artist’s practice has a highly imaginative and unconventional engagement with pictorial and physical space. The exhibition will explore new ways of thinking about the relationship between painting, sculpture and architecture.

40 Years of the Future: Jo McGonigal x Frank Bowling runs from 20 October 2024 to 02 February 2025 at Castlefield Gallery, Manchester.

The exhibition is generously supported by the Henry Moore Foundation and the University of Leeds.
